The Mystery of Edwin Drood opened last night, July 29, at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick. The Mystery of Edwin Drood was the Charles Dickens' novel left unfinished at the time of Dickens' death. The audience is polled toward the end of the second act and with some comedy by-play, the audience decides the fate of the ending.
The show opened to a very enthusiastic audience. Donna and Marcus Nutting of Dover were there for opening night. Marcus said it was a wonderful show. He especially enjoyed the performance of Rosa (played by Miranda Freeman). He said, "She has a beautiful voice. You can tell she is a trained singer, very experienced."
Edwin Drood is played by Katie Rodger who is also the director of the Hackmatack Kids' Camp production, Pirates of Penzance which also opens this week. Shows are July 31, August 1, 7, and 8 at 10AM.
