Summer Stages: BWW's Top Summer Theatre Picks - Maine!

1. Ogunquit Playhouse

America's foremost summer theater celebrates their 80th season now through October 21, 2012. You'll go crazy for Always...Patsy Cline (May 23-June 16) starring Ogunquit's favorite, Sally Struthers. It will be some enchanted evening when South Pacific (based on the 2008 Tony Award winning Lincoln Center production) takes the stage June 20-July 14. A homerun hit comes to Ogunquit when Damn Yankees (the new Boston Red Sox version) plays musical baseball from July 25-August 18, The Broadway smash hit, 9 to 5: The Musical, will provide non-stop laughter from August 22-September 15. The season closes with the joyous celebration of Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story from September 20-October 21.

2. Maine State Music Theatre

Celebrating 54 seasons of summer theater, Maine State Music Theatre opens with the mega-smash hit, A Chorus Line, from June 6-23. You'll be doing the bend and snap when Legally Blonde takes the stage June 27-July 14. Experience the glory days of Hollywood when the musical, Sunset Boulevard, descends onto the stage July 18-August 4. Come and meet those dancing feet when 42nd Street closes the MSMT summer season August 8-25.

3. Hackmatack Playhouse

True summerstock will celebrate 41 seasons at Hackmatack Playhouse opening with a love story to the music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David in Burt and Me, June 15-30. Get your surrey with the fringe on top to Oklahoma, July 4-21. You can't stop the beat when Hairspray explodes onto the barn stage July 25-August 11. The hysterical comedy, Boeing-Boeing, will bring the season to a close August 15-September 1.

4. Theatre at Monmouth

Experience professional rotating repertory theater as the Theatre at Monmouth opens their 43rd season with the classic play of a difficult past and an uncertain future, The Glass Menagerie. The 2 Gentlemen of Verona will bring a whirlwind adventure of love, desire and disguise to the stage. There is a galaxy of adventure as The Little Prince brings family theatre to Monmouth throughout the summer. Henry IV, Part 1 has King Henry facing rebellion from the very very nobles who helped him seize the crown. Moliere's most entertaining work takes the stage in Tartuffe, or The Imposter. The Fall brings George and Ira Gershwin's music and lyrics to life in the political satire, Of Thee I Sing.

5. Lakewood Theatre

A season of old favorites and new shows take the stage for the 112th season of Lakewood Theatre. Pageant Play (through June 2), Enchanted April (June 7-16), 9 to 5: The Musical (June 21-30), And The Winner Is (July 5-14), The Fox on the Fairway (July 19-28), The Music Man (August 2-11), Murdered to Death (August 16-25), The House of Blue Leaves (August 30-September 8) and Who Goes Bare (September 13-22).
