Penobscot Theatre Company has a host of programs to fire-up the imagination and combat cabin fever this winter, starting with The Neverending Story, a performance-based program for youths aged 4-15. This offering will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 10 through March 23, culminating in three public performances at the historic Bangor Opera House, March 24-26. Registration will close January 12. All registrants will be cast.
A dramatic adaptation of the beloved book and film, The Neverending Story offers many dynamic roles, including Atreyu, the heroic young orphan tasked with saving the magical land of Fantastica; a childlike empress; a dragon; a werewolf; and more. "We chose this story because it is exploding with magic," said Amy Roeder, Penobscot Theatre Company's director of education. "We can't wait to set off with our students on this grand adventure!" The Neverending Story was adapted by David S. Craig from the novel by Michael Ende and is produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.
The second session of the company's Young Adult Performance Conservatory will beginJanuary 23. It is open to all serious students of theatre in grades 9-12; registration in the fall session (or prior) is not required.
The company has planned a special trip for high school and college students to see two of the hottest new shows on Broadway: Dear Evan Hansen, starring Ben Platt, and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, starring Josh Groban. Scheduled to coincide with the Presidents Day holiday and high school break, the trip to New York City will span February 18-20. Transportation, lodging and several meals are included in the package.
For younger students, February Vacation Camp will be available again this year, offering full-day care, theatre games, and skill-building, February 20-24.

Dramatic Academy is the celebrated educational arm of Penobscot Theatre Company. In addition to offering year-round classes, camps, and workshops for adults and youths aged 4 and up, Dramatic Academy produces three school-year productions and two fully realized summer productions, all open to the general public.
