Portland Ovations presents violinist, Jennifer Koh at Hannaford Hall tonight, May 3 at 7:30pm.

Recognized for her passionate and commanding performances, violinist Jennifer Koh is beloved by audiences for her consummate musicianship and the probing intellectual acuity she brings to both the traditional and contemporary repertoire believing that past and present forms a continuum. With a rousing musical curiosity Koh chooses works that both inspire and challenge her while constantly searching for similarities of voice among diverse composers and associations within the works of a single composer.

Jennifer Koh's "Bach & Beyond" program pairs the Bach Sonatas and Partitas with works by contemporary composers. Her Portland Ovations program will include; Bach:Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001, Bartók: Sonata for Solo Violin Sz. 117, BB 124, Mazzoli: Dissolve, Oh my Heart and Bach: Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002.

Ms. Koh will work with local schools and students through in-school workshops, masterclasses and more while she is in Portland.

Prior to the evening performance at 6:30pm Ovations Offstage offers a pre-performance lecture, "Bach and Beyond" by Dr. Robert Lehmann, Director of String Studies and Orchestral Activities at USM School of Music who will discuss the distillation process-the whole world on four strings.

Tickets for Jennifer Koh are $31 for Ovations' Members, $34 for the general public and a limited amount of $10 student tickets are also available. UBS graciously sponsors the Jennifer Koh performance. To purchase tickets, contact PortTix at 207-842-0800 or visit the box office window at Merrill Auditorium. Tickets are also available online at
