Penobscot Theatre Company is shining up its cowboy boots to kick-off its 41st season with The Honky Tonk Angels, September 4-21. This heartwarming musical features 30 classics from the Golden Age of Country, including "9-5," "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Stand by Your Man."

"The women who took those songs to the top of the charts became known by their first names alone," said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. "Dolly, Loretta, Tanya...They set the standard, and here doing them justice and giving their hit songs new life are three powerhouse vocalists of our own: Laura, Heather and Brianne."

Laura Hodos, Heather Libby, and Brianne Beck will play "The Honky Tonk Angels," three women who meet on a bus bound for Nashville, chasing their dreams of country music stardom and finding friendship along way. Last seen by Penobscot Theatre Company audiences as Patsy in Always...Patsy Cline, Laura Hodos was recently nominated for a San Francisco BroadwayWorld Award for her performance as Fantine in LES MISERABLES. She has delighted audiences and earned critical acclaim at theatres nationwide, earning three Carbonell Award nominations. A native of New Jersey, Hodos presently resides in Florida. She is a member of Actors' Equity.

Joining Hodos in The Honky Angels are local standouts and Penobscot Theatre Company veterans Heather Libby (The Rocky Horror Show, The Great Trailer Park Musical) and Brianne Beck (The Rocky Horror Show, One Blue Tarp, I love, You're Perfect, Now Change, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Boeing, Boeing).

Director Michele Colvin is best known for her work with the Cumberland Country Playhouse in Crossville, Tennessee, where she directed and choreographed for 20 years. Her Playhouse credits include regional premiers, award-winning productions, and highly successful student productions. Most recently, Colvin served as director/choreographer for the Smoky Mountain Opry in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where her productions garnered her the title "Best Show." Colvin is the recipient of the inaugural Taft Miller Award from The Western Stage in California for Women's Excellence in Theatre. She is a graduate of Southern Methodist University's prestigious master's program in Choreographic Theory and Practice.

The design team for The Honky Tonk Angels includes Tricia Hobbs (set), Jess Fialko (lighting), Kevin Koski (costume), Brandie Rita (sound), and Meredith Perry (properties). As music director, Phil Burns will lead a six-piece band on stage.

As a special offering, Hodos will perform in a solo cabaret, Sunday, September 14, at 7:00 pm, singing the hits of musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethyl Merman, and Barbra Streisand. All tickets are $10, available at the Penobscot Theatre Company Box Office. To purchase tickets or for more details, call the Box Office at (207) 942-3333 or go online at www.penobscottheatre.org.
