Registration is open for Penobscot Theatre Company's April Vacation Camp, offering full-day programming for students aged 4-14, Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22. For the second year, the theatre is teaming with the University of Maine Museum of Art (UMMA) to provide cross-disciplinary experience in the arts.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, students' time will be divided between the Bangor Opera House, the theatre's historic home, and the museum, as they learn about diverse world cultures through dramatic and visual art activities. On these four days, students will spend the morning at the Opera House exploring and performing folk tales from various countries; in the afternoon, theatre staff will escort them to the museum where Education Coordinator Kat Johnson will guide them in exploring the elements of art and principals of design as they relate to the morning stories.

"We're thrilled to partner again with such a dynamic organization, a real gem in our community. We're also excited to bring back our popular Design Day on Thursday to delve more deeply into the craft of theatrical design. How do scenic, lighting and costume designers create story worlds? We'll find out!" Thursday's session will be based entirely at Penobscot Theatre Company.

"We look forward to expanding this unique camp collaboration," said Johnson, "to show how the visual and performing arts intersect and to engage young people in creating both forms of art!"

The daily schedule will begin at 9:00 am with structured activities until 4:00 pm. Because each day will be centered on a different theme, the camp will be flexible and children may attend any or all of the days. Each partnership day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) will end with a showcase of the work for students' families at 3:45 pm at UMMA. Drop-off will be at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor, Monday through Friday. Pick-up will be at UMMA, 40 Harlow Street, Bangor, every day except Thursday, when students will spend the entire day at the Bangor Opera House.

Space at UMMA is limited so enrollment is strictly capped. Early registration is encouraged to secure a spot. The cost is $50 per day or $225 for the week. Early drop-off and late pick-up options are available for an additional fee.
