Penobscot Theatre Dramatic Academy is pleased to announce its upcoming class schedule with offerings for students of all ages and experience levels. After-school youth productions begin Tuesday, September 11.

TINY-THESPIANS AND YOUTH TROUPE - AGES 4-15

For students age 4-15, these twice a week classes focus on working as an ensemble throughout a full rehearsal process that culminates in a weekend of performances. Students can register for Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions individually or bundle the whole year of shows together for a full school year of fun!

FALL

A Wrinkle in Time

by Morgan Gould, adapted from the novel by Madeline L'Engle

This fall travel through the universe with one of literature's most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry. She's joining forces with Mrs.Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O'Keefe and more of your favorite characters to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love CAN overcome evil and 2. There IS such a thing as a tesseract!

WINTER

Anne of Green Gables

Dramatized by Joseph Robinette

This is a delightful adaptation of L.M. Montgomery's classic tale of the indomitable, imaginative, red haired heroine, Anne Shirley. All the tragedies and triumphs that mark Anne's growth from adolescence to early adulthood are here: her friendship with Diana, her feuds with Gilbert, her adoration of Matthew, the cake disaster, and the saving of Green Gables. Whether you're an "old friend" of Anne's or meeting her for the first time, this play will solidify a lasting friendship between you and one of literature's most unforgettable characters. That's Anne with an e, by the by...

SPRING

Treasure Island

by Max Bush, adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson

Young Jim Hawkins' adventure begins when Billy Bones arrives at the Admiral Benbow Inn with a secret map to the treasure of a pirate named Flint. The map winds up in Jim's hands and he embarks on a high-seas adventure with Doctor Livesay, Squire Trelawney and his new friend...a fine, upstanding fellow who goes by the name of Long John Silver. When Silver turns treacherous and Jim's ship is threatened, it's up to Jim to save the ship & his shipmates, not to mention the treasure!

FEBRUARY VACATION CAMP

Dramatic Academy will again be offering its annual February Vacation Camp from February 18-22. Students of all ages will be able to engage in unique topics about various aspects of theatre each day with several of the Bangor Area's great teaching artists. Students are welcome to attend any day individually or for the entire week. This camp is perfect for young people who are curious about how plays are made, but have not yet had the opportunity to try it out for themselves.

TEENS, TEENS, TEENS!

Teenagers interested in expanding their acting toolboxes need look no further than the Young Adult Performance Conservatory. This once a week class is for serious students in grades 9-12 who want a deeper understanding of the craft of acting. Each session is led by a different teaching artist who bring their unique perspective as a theatre artist to each class. Students can register for each session separately or as a bundle.

Fall: Sep 10 - Nov 26, Mondays - 6 pm to 8 pm

Spring: Jan 7 - March 25, Mondays - 6 pm to 8 pm

ADULTS ONLY!

Dramatic Academy is proud to offer several classes for adults who are ready to take the plunge and discover themselves on-stage.

ACTING IN MUSICAL THEATRE

Dominick Varney leads this weekly class begins on Tuesday September 11, aimed at adult students seeking to explore who they are as musical artists. At the end of eight weeks each student will walk away with several audition ready songs.

Sep 11 - Oct 30:Tuesdays, 7pm to 9pm

MONOLOGUE AND SCENE STUDY

Ever walk away from a show in the audience saying to yourself "I can do that"? Well, now you can! This eight-week course will teach actors how to unpack the meaning of a script and how to use that knowledge to deliver a consistently strong performance.

Jan 10 - Feb 28: Thursdays, 7pm to 9pm

IMPROV

Our popular series of Improv classes, taught by some of the funniest, most experienced professionals in the field are open to adults and mature teens with the permission of the instructor.

Improv I Perfect for performers and non-performers, this course offers a fun and interactive introduction to the basic building blocks of improvisational theatre.

Sept 12 - Oct 31: Wed 7-9 pm

Improv II This course builds on basic improvisational techniques, applying them in short-form improv and advanced scene work. Prerequisite: Level I or permission of instructor.

Jan 9 - Feb 27: Wed 7-9 pm

Improv III This course focuses on advanced characterization in improvisation. Prerequisite: Level II or permission of instructor.

Mar 13 - May 1: Wed 7-9 pm

Classes are held at Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy space: 51 Main Street in downtown Bangor.
