Lions and tigers and bears would be a bit much, but how about one lion, one witch, and two little girls? Penobscot Theatre Company is planning to bring some holiday cheer to young patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center, and cast members of its upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz are excited about the opportunity to provide a special preview. Pamela Chabora (The Wicked Witch of the West); Ben Layman (The Cowardly Lion); and the two young actors sharing the role of Dorothy, Bronwyn Beardsley and Molly Hagerty, will visit the pediatric ward in costume, Tuesday, November 25, at 3:00 pm.

"We all know there's no place like home, and especially as Thanksgiving approaches, that's the only place sick children want to be," said Layman, a resident teaching artist at Penobscot Theatre Company. "But while they're getting well, we want to bring big smiles to their faces. We'll sing a few songs, give them a feel for some of the scenes; and Pamela will not scare anyone!"

The Wizard of Oz opens at The Bangor Opera House December 4 and runs through December 28. It is produced in partnership with Dead River Company, Deighan Wealth Advisors, Kindred Spirits Veterinary Clinic, Bangor International Airport, Granville Stone and Hearth, and Green Acres Kennel Shop. The theatre gratefully acknowledges the generous support provided throughout the season by the following sponsors: Canyon Networks, The Charles Inn, Bangor Daily News, The Maine Arts Commission, The Maine Edge, Blueberry Broadcasting, Downtown with Rich Kimball, ZONE Radio, and WLBZ Channel 2.
