Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy to Present HARRIET THE SPY

Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy presents Harriet the Spy, a lively dramatization of the modern classic by Louise Fitzhugh, March 18 and 19 at 4:30 pm and March 20 at 11:30am. All performances will be at the Bangor Opera House. "This story has resonated for generations," said Director of Education Amy Roeder, "because it speaks honestly and very humorously to the growing pains everyone experiences in the 'tween years."

The story revolves around precocious 11-year-old Harriet, her best friends Janie and Sport, and her beloved nanny Ole Golly. An aspiring secret agent, Harriet documents the activities of all those around her. When mean girl Marion Hawthorne discovers Harriet's spy notebook and shares her unvarnished observations with the rest of the school, Harriet finds herself in the crosshairs.

Twenty young performers will bring Harriet's world to life, including the colorful neighbors and a coterie of cats along Harriet's spy route. The cast, ranging in age from 4 to 15, includes: Lily K. Barrington, Tala Bayless, Walker Bayless, Austin Beaulieu, Lauren Bilancia, Elisabeth Budd, Kaitlyn Carreira, Sophia Crespo, Ian Eskesen, Rebekah Friedman, Connemara Geaghan, Nevaeh Howell, Maia Johnson, Brooke Jones, Conor Laferriere, Cami Layman, Wells Mundell-Wood, Paige Napolillo, Joseph Rutledge and Laurel Whidden.

Harriet the Spy is directed by Penobscot Theatre Company resident teaching artist and company member, Benjamin Layman.

Dramatic Academy is the celebrated educational arm of Penobscot Theatre Company. In addition to offering year-round classes, camps, and workshops for adults and youths aged 4 and up, Dramatic Academy produces three school-year productions and two full summer productions, all open to the general public.
