Penobscot Theatre Company invites the community to enjoy a complimentary sampling of the 2018-2019 season at Scenes & Songs, August 23 at 7:00 pm, at the Bangor Opera House. This much-anticipated annual event is being directed this year by audience favorites Dominick Varney and Brianne Beck.

First in the company's 45th season will be the Maine premiere of The Graduate, September 6-23, the stage adaptation of the cult novel and film classic about the pain, passion and possibility of a young man on the cusp of . . . anything but plastics!

In time for Halloween will be the new adaptation of the 1966 thriller Wait Until Dark, October 18-November 4, about a sinister con man and two ex-convicts who meet their match when they go up against a blind woman who makes them play by her rules.

During the special holiday slot will be the Maine premiere of Elf the Musical, December 6-30, based on the popular film about a boy named Buddy who grows up believing he is one of Santa's elves and who, in the end, reminds us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

Kicking off the new year will be the Maine premiere of Honky Tonk Laundry, January 31-February 24, about two country angels who turn a humble laundromat into a boot-scootin', country music-singin' honky-tonk.

Rounding the corner on winter will be the laugh-out-loud comedy Ripcord, March 14-31, where a seemingly harmless bet between two old women escalates into a hilarious game of one-upmanship - think The Golden Girls meets The Odd Couple!

Closing out the subscription series will be the Maine premiere of Fun Home, April 25-May 12, about a daughter who, after her father dies, dives into her past to tell the story of the man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Winner of five 2015 Tony Awards including Best Musical. In keeping with the tradition of recent years, the company will unveil its "surprise seventh show" at Scenes & Songs.

Producing Artistic Director, Bari Newport says, "I can share that it will run for an unprecedented five weeks, June 13-July 14, 2019."

Full season, snowbird, and student subscriptions are on sale now, offering patrons various ways to enjoy the theatre and save up to 39 percent off the price of single tickets. All subscribers are eligible for exclusive benefits, including discounted tickets to Elf the Musical and the surprise seventh show as well as other special events. Single tickets for The Graduate and all other regular shows will go on sale Monday, August 6.
