Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present The Grand Tour: A Celebration of the Music of George Jones, for two performances only, October 1 at 7:30 pm and October 2 at 3 pm. The show takes audiences on a retrospective journey through the Ol' Possum's career, from the early Hank Williams-influenced Honky Tonk recordings up through Jones's "countrypolitan" era, including his chart-topping collaborations with fellow country music royalty. Songs include such favorites as "White Lightning," "The Race is On," "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?" "Love Bug," "She Thinks I Still Care," and "He Stopped Loving Her Today."
Interspersed with stories and reflections from lead singer Larry Tobias, The Grand Tour is an electrifying evening of real country music, made famous by the king of real country music, for fans of real country music! Backing Tobias will be Andrew Crowe on fiddle and keyboard, Mike Lunoe on percussion, and Mike Rosengarten on lead guitar.
"Andrew made his Penobscot Theatre Company debut in Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash, and he delighted audiences later last season in Duck Hunter Shoots Angeland Rock of Ages," said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. "We're thrilled to welcome him back to Bangor with this phenomenal tribute to the king of country!" The Roanoke Times described The Grand Tour as "vocally and instrumentally spot on," and a critic from The Washington Post raved, "Tobias oozes authenticity."
