Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy is now registering youths aged 4-15 for its spring production of Treasure Island. Classes will begin March 26 and run every Tuesday and Thursday until May 16. Led by professional teaching artists, students will take the play from page to stage, learning dramatic technique in a safe and collaborative environment. The program will culminate with three public performances, fully produced and technically supported, at the historic Bangor Opera House, May 17-19. Registration will close March 28.
Based on the classic book by Robert Louis Stevenson and dramatized by Max Bush, Treasure Island is a grand pirating spectacle! Young Jim Hawkins' adventurebegins when Billy Bones arrives at the Admiral Benbow Inn with a secret map to the treasure of a pirate named Flint. The map winds up in Jim's hands and he embarks on a high-seas adventure with Doctor Livesay, Squire Trelawney, and his new friend...a fine, upstanding fellow who goes by the name of Long John Silver. When Silver turns treacherous and Jim's ship is threatened, it's up to Jim to save the ship and his shipmates, not to mention the treasure!
