The Ogunquit Playhouse is the proud recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation to support the Youth Outreach and Education Programs. Grant funds will allow
those who would not otherwise be able to participate due to financial hardship to visit the
Ogunquit Playhouse this year. Many groups have expressed a strong desire to be included in this program, thanks to this funding the Playhouse will be able to bring many more young people through its doors in 2009.
The Ogunquit Playhouse Youth Outreach and Education Program, through private, corporate and grant funding, brings young people from Maine based low-income schools and social service agency groups to the Playhouse to experience live musical theatre, often for the first time. This program focuses on educating our young people about history and struggles of humanity through live theatre. The groups are given a guided tour and a student guide that includes an overview and history of the show they are about to see as well as a brief lesson on the Ogunquit Playhouse and theatre etiquette. An interactive question and answer period with the cast is included following the show.
The Ogunquit Playhouse staff and Board of Directors are truly grateful for this support. Without this type of funding to close the gap between production costs and what students and social service agency clientele can afford to pay, we could not provide this program.
The Davis Family Foundation is a public charitable foundation established by Phyllis C. Davis and H. Halsey Davis of Falmouth, Maine, to support educational, medical and cultural/arts organizations located primarily in Maine. Their overriding goal is "to make grants where they will do the most good and where our gifts make a real difference."
