Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present New York City singer/pianist Brad Simmons in his one-man musical performance Storytellers on Saturday, September 29 at 7 pm and Sunday, September 30 at 3 pm at the historic Bangor Opera House. In Storytellers, Mr. Simmons shares his journey from Alabama to New York City through celebrating the songwriting genius of such legendary recording artists as Paul Simon, Billy Joel, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks and James Taylor.
Brad Simmons is a New York City concert artist and Broadway music director. He regularly performs with Tony Award Winners Alice Ripley, Tonya Pinkins, Beth Leavel and Donna McKechnie; in addition, he has performed with recording icons Sandi Patty and The B-52s' Kate Pierson. He has conducted Lysistrata Jones, Mr & Mrs Fitch with John Lithgow, Me and the Girls with Alan Cumming, Hood and To Wong Foo, among others. Film credits include The Last Five Years with Anna Kendrick, Camp and Hello Again with Audra McDonald, Martha Plimpton and Cheyenne Jackson. Recordings include The Simon+Garfunkel Collection, Silent Night, Mundane Existence and Dreamworld.
"We were looking for a special event to pair with our production of The Graduate," remarks Bari Newport, Penobscot Theatre Company producing artistic director. "In addition to being one of the most sought-after Broadway music directors, Brad Simmons is a well known cabaret artist. His album The Simon + Garfunkel Collection was brought to my attention by a mutual friend. We used that album (which he also performs as a one man biographical tribute show) as a jumping off point and discovered Brad had another show that not only unpacks the history of Simon & Garfunkel hits, but also of a whole host of other singer/songwriters - including some of my very personal favorites."
Tickets may be purchased by phone (207-942-3333), online at www.penobscottheatre.org or in person at 131 Main Street, Bangor. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, noon to 5:00 pm, and up to three hours before performance times when shows are running. See you at the theatre!
