Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' performance series dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in accessible ways for contemporary audiences, continues its new season of First Friday performances in The Ballroom at Mechanics Hall with "Sirens."
The adapation, created and directed by Sarah Barlow, features scenes from six plays tracomg stories of six notable and tragic heroines. Cursed to lure and entangle mortals with their magical songs, or die if someone heard them and escaped, the Sirens of Greek mythology were fated to be pawns in their own lonely existence. Shakespeare's heroines often suffer the same fate, innocently attracting people and situations that ultimately lead to their sad demise.
This performance includes selections from the following plays: "Pericles, Prince of Tyre," "Othello," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Antony and Cleopatra," "Hamlet" and "Two Noble Kinsmen." Shows take place in Mechanics Hall on Thursday, November 2nd and First Friday, November 3rd. Both shows are pay-what-you-can with a $10 suggested donation. As part of a new program designed to bring the company's performances into non-traditional establishments. "Sirens" will also be performed at the Port City Blue on Tuesday, November 7th with a $10 ticket price.
