Innovative Indie theater company Lorem Ipsum are back this spring with a multimedia production of Ghosts, to be held at SPACE Gallery the last two weekends in March, 7:00 p.m., 538 Congress Street, Portland Maine.
Lorem Ipsum’s production of
Ghosts will push the viewer’s sensory boundaries by incorporating video as well as a fully mounted art exhibition in the performance space, acting as an extension of the set. A piece of classic Norwegian theater written in 1881 by
Henrik Ibsen, Ghosts explores themes of sexual repression, the inescapable influence of one’s parents, and of course, how the dead manifest in our present lives. In its first run, Ghosts was heralded as "revoltingly suggestive and blasphemous." This is a show that should not be missed.
Ghosts will be Lorem Ipsum’s fourth performance as a company; the first to incorporate film collaborations from Last House Productions (Are you the Walkers?) and Budget Fabulous Films (My Heart is an Idiot, Forgiveness). Taking full advantage of Portland’s thriving, talented and creative community, Lorem Ipsum’s previous works include their inaugural Ubu Roi, with life-size absurdest puppets; Blood Wedding with a live, original score; and Threepenny Opera, praised by the Portland Phoenix as, “simply mandatory viewing for anyone in town who takes theater seriously.”
Taking their name from the nonsense Latin used by printers since the 1500s to hold the place of text, Lorem Ipsum’s mission is to “create innovative and accessible productions of rare, classic, and new works.” The company is fully committed to collaborative creative techniques.
Members of Lorem Ipsum’s collective have acted in productions at Portland Stage Company, Shakespeare in the Park, Freeport Players, the Good Theater, Lyric Music Theater, Lucid Stage Company, Mad Horse Theater, Add V
ERB Productions and USM.
