BroadwayWorld's High School Center is proud to showcase high school performance programs around the country in our weekly feature of 'High School in the Spotlight'. This week, we feature the Drama program at Mount Desert Island High School in Maine!
Providing educational theatre to the youth of Mount Desert Island and its surrounding communities since 1968, MDI Drama presents four productions each school year: the Fall Musical (November), the One Act Play (February/March) and two Spring Plays (May).
MDI Drama has hosted the Eastern Regional of the Maine Drama Festival in 1997-2000, 2002-2009 and 2011 and will host again in 2012 and is home of International Thespian Troupe 6242.
MDI Drama's home is the 396-seat Higgins-Demas Theater. The facility is named after George Demas and (the late) Joyce Higgins, two educators who guided a generation of young people to a greater understanding of the beauty of theater and life.
