As an appetizer for their soon-to-be-announced 46th season opener, Penobscot Theatre Company will present New York based actor/musician Randy Noojin's award-winning solo show, Hard-Travelin' with Woody on April 6 and April 7.
Hop a box car through the Dustbowl with Woody Guthrie and commune with the spirit, stories and songs of America's iconic folksinger, saint-of-the-workingman and poet-of-the-people in this critically acclaimed, multimedia show packed with Woody's spirit, music and artworks.
Penobscot Theatre Company producing artistic director, Bari Newport says, "I have always found Woody Guthrie's poetic message of empowerment for the voiceless to be inspiring beyond measure. It is with this in mind that we will be opening our upcoming season with a large-scale tribute to Woody Guthrie. This incredible one-man show by Randy Noojin, will wet the appetites of audience members familiar with Guthrie's legacy and give a transportive lesson in American folk music (not to mention politics and socioeconomics) to those who are not."
Writer/performer Randy Noojin has acted in hundreds of plays regionally and in New York. His plays and musicals have been commissioned by and produced at theatres nationwide. Randy holds an MFA from the University of Iowa's prestigious Playwrights Workshop. The feature film based on his play Unbeatable Harold premiered on Showtime in 2011, starring Dylan McDermott, Charles Durning and Henry Winkler. His one-man show Hard Travelin' with Woody was originally produced at FringeNYC.
Hard Travelin' with Woody plays at Penobscot Theatre Company's historic home, the Bangor Opera House April 6th at 7pm and April 7th at 3pm. Tickets are $34 for subscribers and $39 for non-subscribers. Discounts available for students, seniors, military and educators. Group rates available for groups of 8+.
