Good Theater, the professional theater in residence at St. Lawrence Arts on MunJoy Hill in Portland, is pleased to announce that the Sam L. Cohen Foundation has awarded the company a grant in the amount of $4,000 for support of the opening show of the 2013-2014 season, Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris.
Clybourne Park won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for drama. This production marks the Maine premiere of the award winning play. Clybourne Park is set in Chicago in 1959, Act One and the same house in 2009, Act Two. Each of the seven actors in the play portrays two characters as the audience experiences the change to the house and neighborhood over the course of 50 years.In Act One a predominantly white neighborhood is thrown into turmoil when an African American family is set to move into one of the houses. Fifty years later, in Act Two, the now predominantly black neighborhood struggles when a white family wants to tear down this historic house and put up a mcmansion.Videos
