The recent Broadway hit Good People, begins its run at The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn's Professional Theatre, today, March 14 - 23. This humor filled drama and recent Tony Award nominee for the Best Play on Broadway, is a wicked smart, funny and powerful story about whether it is our luck, our choices or our hard work that creates our success in life.

Welcome to South Boston, where this month's paycheck covers last month's bills and a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo. When single mom Margie loses her job, she turns to an old boyfriend from the neighborhood, now a successful doctor, to help her make a fresh start. But is this self-made man secure enough to revisit his humble beginnings? Intelligent, humorous and thought-provoking, this story of old friends and old flames explores the question if we can ever really leave the old neighborhood behind?

Director Christopher Schario says, "This funny, tough and tender play takes an affectionate look at the "haves" and "have nots" in society and powerfully questions the American dream that anyone can succeed if they just try hard enough. We believe this play will resonate strongly with Maine audiences."

In addition to being nominated for a Tony Award, and being the most produced play in 2013, Good People was named Best Play of 2011 by the New York Drama Critics Circle, as well as featured on the "Top Ten" theater lists of New York Magazine, Newsday, Time Out New York and the Associated Press.

Continuing the high quality of acting regularly seen at The Public Theatre, recently named the Best Theatre in Maine by the Down East Magazine's readers' poll, the cast of professional actors include Joe Gately as the successful doctor Mike, Janet Mitchko as down-on-her-luck Margie, Laurie Dawn as her Bingo buddy Jean, Sharon Alexander as the craft making landlady Dottie, Blake Segal as Stevie the Dollar Store manager and Christina Gordon as Mike's wife Kate.

Set design is by Judy Stacier, lighting by Bart Garvey and costumes by Jonna Klaiber.

Good People is playing at The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn's Professional Theatre, March 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23. Show times are Thurs/Fri at 7:30, Sat at 8pm, Sun at 2pm, with an added Sat matinee on March 22 at 2pm. For tickets call 782-3200 or visit www.thepublictheatre.org for more information.
