Strut your stuff! Andrew Norsworthy,
Nina Stevens and ensemble show that they
can truly sparkle.

Bop to the top! HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL JR. is opening this weekend at Winslow Homer Center for the Arts. The middle school production of the cult classic is filled with clever sets, surprising dancing, and overall "cuteness." I talked to a few of the cast members, and was blown away by the amount of energy they brought to the interview.

The cast features Holland Boyington as the basketball player, made theatre nerd. His performance was full of small nuances that the audience will feed off of and go home remembering. Boyington got his start his start in theatre because of his "zany" personality. He said he is learning to interact well with people on stage and that is clear with Troy's scenes with Gabriella, the brainiac made theatre nerd.

An absolute highlight of the night was the young actress portraying the high school diva Sharpay, Nina Stevens. She was the exact right measurement of attitude and personality. Her number in the second act, "Bop to the Top" was a show stopper. The tango feel of the song let everyone get up and dance. I asked her what she thought Sharpay's ice cream flavor was, she responded instantly with, "no sugar added strawberry soft serve with low fat whipped cream and six cherries." Obviously, she is a character on and off stage.

I spoke with other cast members and it is obvious; the energy is high for opening night tonight. The show runs through this weekend with shows 6 PM on March 17th and 18th and 1 PM on the 18th and 19th.
