April Showers Will Bring Improv Power To Light Up Bangor

Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present an All-Star Improv Cabaret, one night only, Sunday, April 2, at 7:00 pm, at the historic Bangor Opera House. "The show will feature five masters of improvisation, including our own Amy Roeder and the talent behind ImprovAcadia, Jen Shepard and Larrance Fingerhut!" said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. In the tradition of short-form improv, the quick-witted artists will take suggestions from the audience and spin them into an unforgettable night of comedy, fun and appropriate for all ages.

Larrance Fingerhut music directs and operates ImprovAcadia (www.improvacadia.com) in Bar Harbor during the summer and fall months. He has also served as music director in theaters in Maine, Chicago, and Greece. His Penobscot Theatre Company credits include It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Guys on Ice: An Ice-Fishing Musical, and Lumberjacks in Love. Lizz Mathews, who has been performing with ImprovAcadia and Capital City Improv and teaching improv at Penobscot Theatre Company since moving from Michigan to Maine in 2014. She also leads the company's coached ensemble, B.I.G.

Dennis Price, founder and director of Capital City Improv. Having studied in Chicago with ImprovOlympic (currently The iO Theater) and The Second City, Dennis has been performing for more than 15 years, most recently in the Augusta area and during the summer at ImprovAcadia in Bar Harbor. He also teaches theater and drama at Winthrop High School. Dennis's acting credits include Penobscot Theatre Company's productions of The Crucible (2004) and A Christmas Carol (2004, 2005). www.capitalcityimprov.com

Amy Roeder, Penobscot Theatre Company's director of education, who formerly trained and performed with The Second City. Amy fell in love with Maine while performing with ImprovAcadia and relocated in 2014. She was featured on Penobscot Theatre Company's mainstage in Doctor Cerberus and August: Osage County. Earlier regional credits include: A Christmas Carol (Drury Lane Oakbrook),Second City 2: Less Pride, More Pork (Cincinnati Playhouse), Sex and the Second City (ALLIANCE THEATRE & Denver Center for the Performing Arts), The Second City's History of Chicago (UP Comedy Club), Miracle at 1280 Peachtree St. (ALLIANCE THEATRE), Peach Drop, Stop and Roll (ALLIANCE THEATRE), and Too Busy to Hate, Too Hard to Commute (ALLIANCE THEATRE). Amy holds her BFA from the University of Evansville, her MFA from the University of Georgia; and she is a certified Michael Chekhov Technique teacher.

Jen Shepard studied improvisational comedy in Chicago at The iO Theater, The Annoyance Theatre and The Playground before moving to Maine in 2004 to open ImprovAcadia with her husband, musical improviser extraordinaire, Larrance Fingerhut. Jen has performed sketch and improv comedy all over the world with The Second City on Norwegian Cruise Lines. This winter she remained in Maine to teach at College of the Atlantic and perform at Penobscot Theatre Company (It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Hair Frenzy and Papermaker.
