The Acorn Acting Academy finishes a busy first season of events in the new Acorn Studio Theater with a free night of improvisational comedy featuring members of Acorn's Shakespeare Ensemble showcasing another side of their talents. On Friday, June 5th at 7:30 p.m., Acorn's Producing Director Michael Levine and actors Keith Anctil, Stephanie Ross and Laura Graham will present an evening of traditional improv favorites, followed by a series of games in which audience members will be invited to replace members of the company on stage. The audience involvement is purely voluntary, and audience members are welcome to just come and watch without participating in the performance. This event is designed to provide a fun forum for interested members of the community to gather in Acorn's studio theater space and meet members of Acorn's teaching faculty, as three out of the company's four teachers will be performing. The performance is free with a $5 suggested donation.
The Acorn Acting Academy begins it summer semester of classes the week of June 21st, with offerings to include the popular "Acting for Ordinary People" class for beginners, more advanced classes in scene study and acting technique, and a continuation of Levine's "Playwrights Lab" class in which new scripts are provided a workshop forum for further development. The summer session marks the end of Acorn's fourth year of providing actor training in the company's studio in the Dana Warp Mill, and since that time hundreds of kids and adults have taken a class from one of Acorn's professional instructors. A complete schedule of acting classes for adults this summer is available at www.acorn-productions.org.
