Nelson Mandela spent the majority of his 27-year political imprisonment on Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town. Set at the same jail during the years of South African apartheid, this Tony-nominated Best Play tells the story of two cellmates rehearsing a scene from Sophocles’ Antigone for a prison concert. As their lives unnervingly echo the world of this Greek tragedy, the men find solace and strength in their burgeoning friendship.
