When you Put Your Cards on the Table, you show the world the thoughts and feelings you've been playing close to your chest. Our musical version of this expression revolves around the complicated relationship between Robert Schumann, Clara Wieck Schumann, and Johannes Brahms. These three great composers, rarely able to express their feelings in their own words, put their cards on the table in the form of incredibly expressive songs. Our program links together songs, readings from letters, and short instrumental works by all three composers in a narrative exploring this complicated emotional saga. Musicians will include artistic directors Stephanie Jutt, flute, and Jeffrey Sykes, piano; Emily Birsan, soprano from the Chicago Lyric Opera; and Timothy Jones, baritone from the University of Houston.
Ages: We welcome children over 6.
