Far too often, great chamber works by incredible composers (both well-known and unknown) get neglected in favor of a handful of popular pieces: they get Lost in the Shuffle. Our program lets those neglected works again see the light of day. We begin with the jazzy, quirky Sonata for flute, clarinet, and piano of French master Maurice Emmanuel. Mendelssohn wrote his rarely-heard Viola Sonata in C minor when he was 14—but it is a masterpiece of the first order. Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time is a well-known work (last featured in our 2nd season!), the manuscript of which nearly got lost in the shuffle of World War II. Musicians will include artistic directors Stephanie Jutt, flute, and Jeffrey Sykes, piano; Carmit Zori, violinist from the Brooklyn Chamber Music Society; Suzanne Beia, violinist from the Pro Arte Quartet; Yura Lee, violist from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; Anthony Ross, principal cellist of the Minnesota Orchestra; and Burt Hara, principal clarinetist from the Minnesota Orchestra. Narration for Quartet for the End of Time is by Linda Clauder.
Ages: We welcome children over 6.
