BREAKING THE WAVES is coming to Luxembourg from February 1st to 7th, 2019.
Breaking the Waves was initially a blockbuster film by Lars von Trier. Myriam Muller, who has already tasted the pleasure of theatrical adaptation with Blind Date, wanted to renew the experience, especially since in this story of love, goodness, sacrifice, there is "theater" and that it is a creation in French language of the text.
On an isolated island, Bess, a psychologically fragile young woman, found love in Jan. But this one, victim of a serious accident, is paralyzed. Bess is ready to do anything to save him. Jan asks him to continue to love, to find a lover and tell him about his sexual pleasures. In a hostile social context, Bess's sacrifice causes Jan's miraculous healing.
For this closed, sectarian and hyper religious world, Jan appears as a threatening intruder. Which is unfortunately a European socio-cultural context of today. The expression of faith and the absolute gift of self are another delicate subject in a world where goodness is suspect.
