The Kentucky Center and Other Businesses to Host Free Unsilent Night Event Downtown Image

Phil Kline's Unsilent Night is a free, outdoor event, open to individuals of all ages, wherein the crowd is able to create a unique composition. This sound sculpture is produced when participants simultaneously play one of four tracks on mobile devices broadcast through a swarm of speakers carried through the city streets.

Since 1992, this 45-minute production has evolved into a worldwide annual event, which returns to Louisville this year for the first time since 2014.

The event begins on the front steps of The Kentucky Center, at 501 W. Main St.. Saturday, December 16, 2017. Event begins at 6:30 p.M. Sharp

Participants will need to bring portable speakers to the event to connect to their phones, tablets or other mobile devices on which they will play the music. Some people in other cities have even put their large speakers in a wagon and brought them along for the walk or simply put their phone inside a mason jar to amplify the sound.

Participants will choose one of four tracks based on their last names. If your last name starts with: A - F, download/stream track one; G-L should download/stream track two; M-R should download/stream track three and S-Z should download/stream track four. The four music tracks can be accessed at http://unsilentnight.com/participate.html.

Louisville will not have cassettes or CDs available upon arrival to the Kentucky Center, so if you prefer to use a boombox system, you'll need to handle those logistics in advance of the event. Parking is available in the parking garage under the Kentucky Center or in adjacent lots for a fee. Participants are encouraged to wear reflective gear or festive, portable holiday lights or glow sticks. Hot cocoa will be available for purchase in SCENE at the Kentucky Center before and after the walk.

To host this event, The Kentucky Center is partnering with Louisville Public Media, Fourth Street Live!, Louisville Downtown Partnership, Louisville Metro Government and WXOX 97.1 F.M.

By participating, you assume all risk of injuries associated with participation including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, and all other such risks being known and appreciated by you as the participant. By participating, you agree, for yourself and anyone entitled to act on your behalf, to INDEMINFY, HOLD HARMLESS, WAIVE AND RELEASE The Kentucky Center and The Kentucky Center Foundation, its officers, agents, employees, organizers, organizing and promotional partners, representatives, and successors from any responsibility, liabilities, demands, or claims of any kind arising out of your participation in this event.
