THE ADDAMS FAMILY Opens Tonight at Jenny Wiley Theatre

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a spooky story about the triumphs, trials, and tribulations of love and family, is coming to Kentucky. The production is presented by Jenny Wiley Theatre. The book was written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Pippa.

The production begins tonight, October 13th, at Jenny Wiley Theatre (218 2nd St Pikeville, KY) and will continue through Saturday, October 28th.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY follows Wednesday, princess of darkness, as she navigates growing up, falling in love, and dealing with her quirky family. In the Addams household, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death is a utopian paradise. The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the parents of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way.

Their dark, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now a young woman who who has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet boy from a normal, respectable family. To make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one thing they've avoided for generations: change.

Joey Murray (Director) is a New York City based theatre, concert, and music video director whose work has been seen at performing art centers, regional theaters and arenas all over the United States and China. He is the recently named Artistic Director for Jenny Wiley Theatre, where he has directed numerous productions, including: Disney's Tarzan, Oliver!, 9 to 5, and The Robber Bridegroom. Recent work include Godspell at ArtisTree's Grange Theatre, Cabaret at Pentangle Arts, the regional tour and Queens Theatre production of POLKADOTS: The Musical, and Holidays at the Hard
Rock! featuring renowned Broadway and recording artist Linda Eder at the Hard Rock Arena in Ft. Lauderdale. Murray served as Associate Director of the Broadway-bound production of CAN-CAN at Paper Mill Playhouse, and is the resident director for The Broadway Dolls, an award-winning concert experience featuring a cast of the most in-demand women on Broadway. NYC directing credits include: New York Musical Theatre Festival; New York International Fringe Festival; New York Theatre Barn; 54 Below; Joe's Pub; Triad/Stage 72; Birdland; Zipper Theatre. Provided the book for Off-Broadway rock musical The Hole (Theatre at St. Clements). Selected regional: Paper Mill Playhouse; Gateway Playhouse; Legacy Theatre; Downstairs Cabaret Theatre. He made his professional debut as a music video director for Element Music in NYC. Murray is a graduate of Catholic University, and studied playwriting and directing at New York University and The Barrow Group, respectively. SDC Associate.

The creative team includes Nicole Sartor (Choreographer), Scott Bradley (Music Director), Darryl Willard (Scenic & Lighting Designer), Jacob George (Sound Designer), Eric Franzen (Costume Designer), Ginny Treu (Wardrobe Associate), Ryann Willard (Production Stage Manager).

Jenny Wiley Theatre is eastern Kentucky's only professional theatre offering year round productions. Since 1964, summers have been magical under the stars at the Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre, located in the beautiful Jenny Wiley State Park in Prestonsburg. In 2014, our new Mainstage indoor theatre opened in Pikeville.

Located at the corner of Second Street and Division Street, this facility offers productions on a year-round basis. Our Pikeville location is the result of a partnership with the City of Pikeville.

JWT is a non-profit organization and receives funding from individuals, corporations, charitable foundations, The Prestonsburg Convention Center and Visitors Bureau, The City of Pikeville, The Kentucky Arts Council, and The Kentucky Department of Travel. The Kentucky Arts Council which is the State Arts Agency, supports Jenny Wiley Theatre with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
