Set in Heartsville, U.S.A., a parallel universe where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuals are considered an oddity, ZANNA DON'T! is a fairy tale...at least that's what the audience is told by glitter-bedecked lead Zanna, a love sleuth waving a magic wand. He's a student at Heartsville High where the male heroes are chess players, not football champs, and the 'in' girls are members of the mechanical-bull-riding team, not the cheerleading squad. Boys fall in love with boys, girls with girls, and heterosexual relationships are definitely not the norm.
It's a new school year at Heartsville High and matchmaker Zanna is doing what he does best - connecting couples, always on the lookout for any extra love that needs to be shared. But things go tragically awry when the school's two closeted heterosexuals realize their feelings for each other. Knowing that their forbidden love will make them outcasts, they turn to Zanna for help and he is forced to put his own happiness on the line to make the world safe for those he loves. Set in a world much like our own, with chaos that ensues more often than not when people love who they really want to, gay or straight, this clever, heart-filled musical tale poignantly transports us from fairy tale into the real world.
