Pandora Productions will announce the 2017-2018 Season when she continues the 16-17 season with: THE NANCE. Set against the backdrop of the world of burlesque, Chauncey finds something he didn't even know he was looking for only to discover that the safe world he thought he inhabited is beginning to unravel.
In the 1930s, burlesque impresarios welcomed the hilarious comics and musical parodies of vaudeville to their decidedly lowbrow niche. A headliner called "the nance"-usually played by a straight man-was a stereotypically campy homosexual and master of comic double entendre. THE NANCE recreates the naughty, raucous world of burlesque's heyday and tells the backstage story of Chauncey Miles and his fellow performers. At a time when it was easy to play gay and dangerous to be gay, Chauncey's uproarious antics on the stage stand out in marked contrast to his offstage life when he meets someone that could turn out to be special.
THE NANCE is being directed by the company's Artistic Director, Michael J. Drury, and stars: Jason Cooper as Chauncey, Bryce Weibe as Ned, Jeff Ketterman as Efram, with the girls of burlesque: Amanda Kyle Lahti, Mandi Elkins Hutchins and Anna Meade. John Spencer directs the music and Frank Goodloe choreographs. The production will run March 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 at 7:30 p and March 12 and 19 at 5:30 p with the only matinee set for March 18 at 2:00 p. The play will be performed at Pandora's home theatre in the Henry Clay building located at 604 South Third Street, 3rd Floor, Downtown Louisville. Single tickets are available for $20 in advance and $22 day of show for this production and are available online at http://www.PandoraProds.org, or via phone at 502.216.5502.
