Kentucky Shakespeare is proud to announce the 55th summer season of their free Shakespeare in Central Park featuring 6 productions over 10 weeks totaling 59 performances.
Kentucky Shakespeare previews The Taming of the Shrew on June 18th with opening night on June 19th. The production runs nightly from June 18th through June 28th, except on Monday June 22nd.
The Taming of the Shrew is directed by Amy Attaway.
"Our season is off to a strong start as we've served nearly 5,000 audience members in just the first two weeks," says Matt Wallace, Producing Artistic Director. "We're delighted to have director Amy Attaway return to direct The Taming of the Shrew, one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies."
The ensemble cast of 17 professional actors will move from The Tempest to The Taming of the Shrew for the next two weeks.
This play has a great reputation as a hilarious comedy, and a terrible reputation as an anti-feminist manifesto," explains director Amy Attaway. "The more time I spend with it, the more I see that it's not anti-feminist at all, but a gentle rebuke of all manners of social disguise and role-playing. And the more time I spend with these amazing actors, the more positive I am that it's going to be a raucous, hysterical performance."
