Kentucky Shakespeare has announced the 55th summer season of their free Shakespeare in Central Park featuring 6 productions over 10 weeks totaling 59 performances.

Kentucky Shakespeare previews Macbeth on July 2nd with opening night on July 3rd. The production runs nightly from July 2nd through July 12th, except on Monday July 6th.

Macbeth is directed by Matt Wallace.

"Just four weeks into our season, we're delighted to experience continued impressive audience response, serving nearly 10,000 people so far," explains Matt Wallace, Producing Artistic Director. "We have six weeks remaining in the season and lots of surprises in store as we run MACBETH for two weeks, bring back THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and THE TEMPEST to rotate all three in repertory for two weeks, and welcome our Globe Players and three excellent community partner groups to take the stage later in the season."

The ensemble cast of 17 professional actors will move from The Taming of the Shrew to Macbeth for the next two weeks, and will add six new performers for Macbeth.

"We're having a ball working on MACBETH, one of Shakespeare's most popular tragedies," says Wallace. "This production is set in medieval Scotland, in the year 1057, the year the actual Macbeth died. We've added several additional performers to the ensemble, including a bagpiper, for a total of 23 cast members. The production features fight choreography by Eric Frantz from the Frazier History Museum, medieval Scottish costumes by Donna Lawrence-Downs, sound by Laura Ellis, and lighting by Casey Clark, all on a medieval castle set designed by Paul Owen."
