Kentucky Shakespeare announces its 2016 Shakespeare in the Parks tour. The seven-actor, 90-minute ROMEO AND JULIET will tour to twenty area parks this March through May, presenting free Shakespeare in various neighborhoods.

"The first year we started with nine parks, last year we served eighteen parks, and this year we are delighted to serve twenty parks and neighborhoods throughout our area with free Shakespeare! This is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays and one the most enduring love stories of all time," says Producing Artistic Director Matt Wallace. "This touring production of ROMEO AND JULIET is really the kick-off to our upcoming summer-long festival for the city of Louisville." He further added, "We thank the Gheens Foundation, the many members of Louisville Metro Council, the Mayors of Lyndon, Jeffersontown, Jeffersonville, New Albany, White Clay, and other generous individuals who have helped us put together this special event for the families of their districts. This year we've also included rain space backup locations for each park so the performance can go on regardless of weather!"

In addition to twenty parks, the production is touring to over thirty schools across the state this spring. The production is directed by Wallace and features an ensemble cast of seven professional, actors. Megan Massie and Crystian Wiltshire play the title roles, with returning actors Jeremy Sapp, Braden McCampbell, Zachary Burrell, Katherine Martin plus Arielle Leverett, making her Kentucky Shakespeare debut. The production features costumes by Donna Lawrence-Downs and set by Charles Nasby.

Kentucky Shakespeare's production is part of Shakespeare in American Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest and is one of forty US theatre companies selected this year for the program.
