The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts announces a $25,000 grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children. The money will be used for three programs which will help children by providing hands-on arts experiences, workshops, subsidized ticket discounts and improved access services.
The Kentucky Center's ArtsReach program will use $14,000 of the grant money to fund the ArtsReach Far Reaching initiative, collaborating with five local organizations: Brooklawn Child & Family Services, Alternative Placement Services, YMCA Safe Place, Maryhurst and Dreams with Wings. At each site, the Center will hold a series of ten interactive arts workshops followed by an in-depth residency experience that will allow the young participants to more fully experience a particular art form and, when possible, create works of art to share with their facility. Participating agencies can also take advantage of the Center's ArtsReach KCard program, which provides young people at the agencies with tickets to certain shows and concerts for only $3.
In addition, $4,800 of the grant will go to the Center's Arts in Healing program, which will work with Home of the Innocents to provide arts experiences for children who are victims of abuse, abandonment and neglect, as well as for medically fragile children. These children will enjoy 120 contact hours of arts workshops in instrumental and vocal music, storytelling, dance, drama and visual art provided by visiting artists.
Finally, $6,200 will support The Kentucky Center's award-winning and nationally-renowned Access Services Program, providing technical updates to Audio Description, Caption Theater and Assistive Listening systems in all of the Center's theaters so that all children will have the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the thrill and excitement of live musical and theatrical performances.
"The WHAS Crusade for Children is a remarkable organization, and we are truly grateful for the grant they have so generously awarded The Kentucky Center," said Center President Stephen Klein. "The Crusade's recognition that the power of the arts can positively impact young lives, and the support provided to these worthwhile programs, will be felt throughout our community in the months to come."
The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that relies on the support of its patrons and the community at large.
