Actress Jennifer Lawrence returned to her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday night to attend the 2018 Awards in the Arts presented by Woodford Reserve, Joy Mangano and Unbridled Eve Charitable Foundation. The ceremony, hosted by Louisville-based organizations Fund for the Arts, Jennifer Lawrence Foundation and Churchill Downs, honored several of the city's prominent artists and arts organizations, while celebrating Louisville's arts community.
Though this was the third annual Awards in the Arts event, this marks the first time Lawrence has attended.
"This was an amazing evening full of creativity and inspiration," said Meredith Lawrence, sister-in-law to Jennifer and director of the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund and Jennifer Lawrence Foundation. "Through this event, we're able to raise critical dollars and deliver transformative arts experiences to children and their families. I'm so glad Jennifer came home to help shine a spotlight on Louisville's world-class arts community."
Since assuming the role of the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund, Meredith has led fundraising efforts that have invested more than $1 million into Greater Louisville's community. In total, the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation has contributed more than $4 million to serve the needs of children and their families. The Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund was created at the Fund for the Arts in 2016 with the net proceeds of the first annual Awards in the Arts. To date, the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund has served more than 75,000 individuals with arts experiences and supported arts access, education, and excellence.
Following the "Orange Carpet" - the event centered on a theme of orange, the color of creativity - Lawrence presented the first award of the ceremony, the Unbridled Charitable Foundation National Arts Advocacy Award, to photographer Linda Bruckheimer, the wife of famed producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
