The 21st Annual Kentucky Shakespeare Competition sponsored by the English Speaking Union, Kentucky Branch, will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012, 12:30 pm at Wyatt Hall, on the campus of Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Contestants from across the state will participate in the two levels of judging.
The winner of the state competition will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to New York City to compete on the national level and the national winner will be awarded a scholarship to study at Oxford University, England, for three weeks in the summer of 2012. In the past five years the Kentucky competitor has been in the top 10 national finalists 4 of those 5 years. In 2008 Adam Brown, a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, was awarded the national scholarship. Kentucky has a long tradition of high school Shakespeare training, proved by the high accomplishment of achievement on the national level.
The English Speaking Union, Kentucky Branch has presented the Kentucky Shakespeare Competition since 1991 when it was initiated under the leadership of Dale Carter Cooper.
