Two of the most anticipated weeks of theater each year in Louisville are when Finnigan Productions presents its annual lineup of 10-minute plays under the banner "Finnigan's Festival of Funky Fresh Fun." This year's lineup of 10 plays was chosen from 50 submissions. Whether comic, surreal, satirical, bizarre, shocking, touching or any combination thereof, the plays chosen fit at least one of three criteria: funky, fresh and fun.

The annual collection of plays come from new scripts submitted by local playwrights and produced using local acting and directing talent. This year's festival will feature the talents of 36 local artists, including 10 playwrights, nine directors, 13 actors, two stage managers and two producers. Though a uniting theme is never deliberately sought, this year's festival will have a sci-fi vibe, says Finnigan Artisic Director Brian Walker.

"Three of the chosen plays live in science fiction worlds, and there will be a series of short serials which will happen between each play and will sort of create its own arch while also connecting the pieces in small ways," Walker says.

"It's going to be one heck of a festival," he says.
