Kevin E. Moore will join Actors Theatre of Louisville as Managing Director this summer in advance of the Tony Award-winning theatre's 53rd season. The appointment was announced less than three months after former Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein departed for a leadership position at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, MN. Moore, who for the past six years has been the Managing Director of Theatre Communications Group (TCG) in New York City, will transition to this position effective July 6, 2016.
The extensive national search for Managing Director was one of only two during the fifty-three year history of Actors Theatre. Moore joins a prestigious lineage of leaders who have led Actors Theatre from its humble beginnings to a nationally recognized regional theatre.
Moore has over twenty-five years of experience in performing arts administration and has proven himself a strong proponent of the American theatre. During his time at Theatre Communications Group, Moore was responsible for all business functions of the national organization for non-profit theatres in America, including finances, research and collective action, as well as human resources, fundraising and marketing. Prior to that, he spent ten years at Arizona Theatre Company in various capacities starting as Marketing Director and eventually becoming Managing Director of the prestigious company.
Waters said, "I'm thrilled that Kevin E. Moore will be joining me and our dedicated team at Actors Theatre here in Louisville. Kevin not only has a passion for new plays but an understanding that theatre needs to belong to the community in which it lives. During his time at TCG, Kevin gained a national perspective from theatres throughout the country. He will bring the best of those experiences here to Actors Theatre. He is a nationally respected and inspired arts leader and I very much look forward to our partnership."
"I have long admired Actors Theatre of Louisville for balancing a deep commitment to its local community with a transformative vision for the new play sector and theatre field," said Moore. "I look forward to bringing the national networks I developed during my tenure at TCG in support of that vision, and to partnering with Les and the exceptional Actors Theatre board and staff.
The national search process was led by a committee of Actors Theatre board members comprised of chair Chris Kay, co-chair Jaleigh White, Laura Douglas, Jan Grayson, Elizabeth Rounsavall, Allan Tasman, and Artistic Director Les Waters. They were assisted by Greg Kandel, Partner in Management Consultants for the Arts, one of the premier executive search firms in the field of performing arts.
Kevin E. Moore joined Theatre Communications Group as Managing Director in the fall of 2010. Prior to joining TCG, Moore was with Arizona Theatre Company where he worked for ten years in various capacities, ultimately serving as Managing Director. In addition to Arizona Theatre Company, Moore is also a founding board member and former Board President for Alliance for Audience/ShowUp.com in Phoenix, a service organization for the arts in the Valley.
Moore has also served on panels for the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Theatre Communications Group and has served on several planning committees for bi-annual meetings for the League of Resident Theatres. Mr. Moore has also served on the negotiating committee for contract negotiations between the League of Resident Theatres and United Scenic Artists, and has been on the Executive Committee for the League of Resident Theatres. He currently serves on the inaugural board of the National Center for Arts Research headquartered at Southern Methodist University.
Moore is a graduate of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.
Entering its 53rd Season, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the State Theatre of Kentucky, is the flagship arts organization in the Louisville community. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Les Waters, Actors Theatre serves to unlock human potential, build community, and enrich quality of life by engaging people in theatre that reflects the wonder and complexity of our time.
