AthensWest Theatre Company continues its inaugural season with the haunting drama 33 Variations. Moisés Kaufman's haunting drama had a limited Broadway engagement in 2009 starring Jane Fonda. Performances are February 12 through 21 at the Downtown Arts Center.

"This is a play about passion," says director, and AthensWest Producing Director, Bo List. "Passion for music, ideas, and how passion becomes obsession - no matter the price."

The play follows Dr. Katherine Brandt, an acclaimed musicologist, as she battles a terminal disease. Brandt is determined to solve one last mystery before it's too late. Meanwhile, 200 years before, we see Ludwig van Beethoven, struggling with deafness, composing the music that would later entrance Dr. Brandt. The play features an onstage pianist playing the works - the Diabelli Variations - as Beethoven composes, and Brandt discovers them. World-renowned concert pianist, and UK Music Professor, Dr. Tedrin Blair Lindsay serves as musical director and performer.

Tickets are $25 for adults, and $20 for students, seniors, and active military. Group rates are available for parties of 10 or more. Tickets are available at www.AthensWest.org or by calling 859-425-2550. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Thursday, February 17 will be a pay what you can performance.

Financial planners D. Scott Neal Incorporated serve as sponsors of this production, while LexArts continues to provide material and administrative support.
