Actors Theatre of Louisville Names 40th Anniv. Apprentice/Intern Company

Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein is proud to introduce the 2011-2012 Apprentice/ Intern (A/I) Company. A total of 45 recent college graduates, 22 acting apprentices and 23 interns were awarded positions in Actors Theatre of Louisville's highly competitive nine month training program. Members of the company will receive experiential and practical training in their chosen field, as well as a first-hand look at the inner-workings of one of the nation's leading regional theatres.

Recognized as one of the oldest continuing pre-professional companies in the nation, this year the A/I Company celebrates its 40th Anniversary. To date, more than 500 apprentices and interns have participated in the prestigious program that serves as a bridge for young theatre makers to transition into their professional careers.

Each year more than 2,000 young theatre artists audition nationwide for the 22 much-coveted spots within the Acting Apprentice Company. Over the course of the program the company produces a full season of shows focused on new works written by playwrights from around the country or devised by the apprentices. The season consists of the Independent Project Series, a program of original works devised and performed by the company throughout the year;Solo Mios, individual performances written and performed by the apprentices;The Tens, a selection of plays selected from entries to the National Ten Minute Play Festival, and the Humana Anthology- a full-length and fully produced work commissioned by Actors Theatre for the company that is part of the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Previous Alumni from the program include; Timothy Busfield (Thirtysomething,The West Wing), Jenny Robertson (Bull Durham,Role Models), Jason Butler Harner (Changeling), Adam Richman (Man vs. Food),Lisa McNulty (Associate Artistic Director of The Women's Project)and Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town, Tan Lines).

Members of the Intern Company hold vital positions within the departments of administration, artistic and production, where they receive hands-on practical training and access to educational seminars and networking opportunities. Interns are encouraged to take on leadership roles while working collaboratively with managers and company staff. Former Interns from Actors Theatre have gone on to occupy key positions on staff at Actors and within arts organizations around the country in as diverse roles as Managing Directors, Lighting Designers, Fundraisers and Stage Managers.
