Actors Theatre invites audiences to step back in time with this new adaptation of Mark Twain's classic tale. Join Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and friends for the greatest summer adventure ever told-complete with pranks, graveyards, caves and buried treasure. Anyone who has ever been a kid will relive all that is grand and glorious about childhood as our mischievous hero wins the girl, charms the grown-ups, and brings a local criminal to justice, all in the course of one small-town day.
Described as a "near-perfect production" by the New York Times when the play premiered at Hartford Stage in 2010 Twain's much-loved novel is brought to the stage in a vibrant new staging. Playwright Laura Eason, who is forging a name for herself in American theatre for her lively adaptations of popular novels and whose Ten-Minute Play Mr. Smitten premiered at this year's Humana Festival of New American Plays, penned this joyful new production of Twain's childhood adventure. She will be joined by Jeremy B. Cohen, Producing Artistic Director at The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis who will direct a visually inventive and imaginative show that promises to entertain audiences aged 10 to 85.
The cast features original cast member Tim McKiernan as Tom Sawyer, former Actors Theatre Acting Apprentice Robbie Tann as Huckleberry Finn, Joseph Adams as Muff Potter, Justin Fuller as Joe Harper, Michael D. Nichols as Injun Joe, Hayley Treider as Becky Thatcher, Nathaniel R. Trinrud as Sid and Doc Robinson and Nance Williamson as Aunt Polly.
The creative team includes: Broken Chord (original Music and Sound Design), Heather Fleming (Wig Designer), Dan Ostling (Scenic Designer), Daniel Stratton (Assistant Scenic Designer), Lorraine Venberg (Costume Designer), Robert M.Wierzel (Lighting Designer), Adam Greene (Assistant Lighting Designer) and Tommy Rapley (Movement Director).
Following the opening of the production at Actors Theatre,The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will move to a run of performances at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Kansas City Repertory Theatre, ending up at the New Victory Theatre in New York City in March 2012.
