On the heels of its critically acclaimed Toronto and off-Broadway run, the Manson Family-themed 'You Are Perfect' hits Los Angeles for a limited engagement. Written and directed by Cyndy A. Marion (named one of NYTheatre.com's 'People of the Year), this 75-minute psychological thriller pulls the focus from Charles Manson and places it squarely on his impressionable young disciple, Susan Atkins.
Set in Atkins' prison cell on the eve of a key moment in the Manson murder trial, 'You Are Perfect' is a dramatic -- and at times surreal -- re-imagining of this Family member's life, psyche, and inner demons, hurtling us through time and space while questioning allegations of murder and deceit. The play ultimately asks whether forgiveness and redemption are even possible for someone in Susan's situation.
Although Manson factors heavily into the narrative, this is the story of a young woman imprisoned for murder after finding herself under the power of a toxic, overpowering male figure.
