The Umbra is a road-trip comedy about a solar eclipse and the cycles of love.
Four friends are on a cross country road-trip to see the total solar eclipse. Demir is planning to propose, but his girlfriend, Veronica, has other ideas for their future. Izzy discovers a road-trip sort of love with a charismatic stranger at a rest stop, and Flo claims their throne as the best road-trip DJ of all time. Inspired by a true solar-eclipse-road-trip, Nicholas Hellyer's The Umbra explores the cycles of relationships. Under the sun and moon, four friends unravel the joyful highs and the woeful lows of what it means to be human and in love.
This will be The Umbra's world premiere, and both Nicholas Hellyer's debut as a playwright, and Rachel Lake's debut as a director.
The Umbra produly showcases its premier as a part of the first ever The Joy Who Lived festival, hosted by founders Laser Webber and Maddox Pennington. The Joy Who Lived is a theater and comedy festival celebrating trans and gender non-conforming artists.
