Mount Wilson Observatory the scientific marvel above Pasadena, atop Mount Wilson is pleased to announce the third date in its Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome six-month series, to take place on Sunday, July 17, 2022. The performances are presented inside the iconic vaulted dome of the 100-inch telescope. The wide range of musical adventures in this series is thoughtfully curated by Artistic Director Ccilia Tsan. The program on July 17th will feature an eclectic blend of Jazz and More with premier accordionist Cory Pesaturo, Leah Zeger, violin, and Jorge Villanueva, percussion. Along with improvisation, Pesaturo is known for his extensive versatility, playing 15 different genres from Klezmer to French, Balkan to Funk, Tango to Rock, Italian to Electronic. Primarily known as a jazz artist, he has recorded with John Patitucci and George Garzone. Leah Zeger is from a family of professional classical string players. She studied violin with her mother, but always had a deep love for singing, especially in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. Pesaturo and Zeger have been performing together since around 2016. Zeger and Jorge Villanueva have played together since around the same time in classical-crossover quartet, Quattrosound. On the 17th the same program will be offered twice: first in a 3:00 PM performance and again at 5:00 PM. There will be an artist reception with a variety of beverages and finger food at 4:00 PM. In addition, concert-goers will be treated to an exhibition featuring rare scientific artifacts, drawings, and illustrations from the Observatorys collection. Seating inside the historic dome is limited. Tickets cost $50 each and are available for purchase in advance (highly recommended) or at the door. For more information on the concert series, please visit https://www.mtwilson.edu/concerts. From there, the July 17th tickets can be purchased for either the 3:00 PM performance or the 5:00 PM show (as well as tickets to future concerts). All proceeds go to support the Mt. Wilson Institute in its mission to preserve, protect and promote the Observatory and the science accomplished there.
