ANOTHER OPENING, ANOTHER SHOW...MANY MANY SHOWS by Bets Dorsey
Dina Morrone, the recipient of the 2018 Valley Theatre Awards for Best Solo Show for The Italian In Me, is bringing her show back to Theatre West November 10th and 11th, while she produces 13 other solos shows for Theatre West in their Portraits of Humanity 2 solo series.
Dina began writing at age nine and acting followed soon after. She's received many other awards in her career such as the Inspiring Solo Performance Award from The Los Angeles Women's Theater Festival and listed as one of the top ten actresses in Los Angeles in ReviewPlays.com.
Her full-length play Moose On The Loose has received critical acclaim in Los Angeles and Canada and played to packed audiences.
The inspiration for The Italian In Me came from the many stories of her life and travels she'd tell at dinner tables and events. People wanted to know more about her time in Rome and to see a one-woman show about those stories and experiences. So, she decided to fulfill their wishes. And it has all been well worth it as she sees the audiences' reactions to her hilarious personal and very Italian stories.
Producing is a lot of work but Dina felt compelled to bring back the successful Portraits of Humanity Series, which were produced last year for the first time at Theatre West by Garry Kluger and Don Moore. When asked "why", she wanted to produce the second annual series, she replied "I have felt that there is a need for solo artists to get their work on stage and to have their stories told. So many fellow Theatre West members have stories to tell, and she wanted to give all those people the opportunity to tell them. Major films and plays have come from such shows. For example, Chazz Palminteri's A Bronx Tales began as a monologue in a workshop at Theatre West years ago. And we all know what became of this famous play, movie and now musical. "I believe more opportunities are needed for people to hone their stories, so they too can go onto even bigger heights."
Every person who is participating in this solo series is either a member of Theatre West, has been a member or a member has written or directed their piece. Here is the line-up shows:
