When Abby Denton's brother passed away, her single father had just bought a used car. Driven mad with grief, he told the young Abby that her brother was a Transformer from the planet Cybertron, and thereafter would take the form of a 1997 Geo Prizm. After that, things got weird.
Abby has spent years trying to process this absurd life in the age of the personal brand. What is authenticity in a world where we assert our identity in a 140-character bio? What is a family but an accumulation of stories? These are questions no audience has been sober enough to grapple with – until Fringe.
Abby Denton has enraptured audiences with her unique brand of off-kilter comedy all over the world, from the dreary dive bars of Los Angeles to the dreary dive bars of Yorkshire, and now even the Hollywood Fringe is no longer safe from this cutting-edge, hilarious comic in her second full-length show, My Brother, the Car.
"I laughed so hard, my costochondritis came back!" - Abby’s handsome butch friend on her acclaimed stand-up show Last Chance to See. Please keep them in your prayers.
My Brother, the Car is directed by Marian Gonzalez, Member of the Broads’ Word, Sacred Fools Theater, and LOFT Ensemble Companies, and has worked on such shows as The Other F Word, Fifty Shades of Shrew, So You Want to Be a Vampire, and CRUNCH.
My Brother, the Car is playing at the Los Angeles LGBT Center (Davidson / Valentini Theatre) in matinee shows on Saturday, June 8th and 22nd, and the evening of Sunday, June 30th.
