Merrily We Roll Along follows 20 years of the turbulent friendship of 3 people. They start out at the beginning of their careers as the most inseparable and best of friends who idealistically dream of a bright future and leaving their mark on the world. As ambitions, desires, and relationships change, they are painfully torn apart. The story is made all the more poignant as it is told in reverse chronological order. Featuring the impeccable music and lyrics of the late Stephen Sondheim, Merrily We Roll Along is a rich and bittersweet commentary about the importance of friendship, staying true to your ideals, and following dreams. One of the biggest flops in Broadway history when it premiered in 1981 is now a sensational Broadway hit in 2023 as one of Sondheim’s most underrated shows finally finds the recognition it deserves.
