PREMIERE: “Mark! A Speculative History of Facebook” brings new comedic tragedy about Facebook in the Shakespearean tradition to Hollywood
The premiere from playwright Phil S. Gould opens this month at The Madnani Theater in Hollywood.
"Mark! A Speculative History of Facebook" follows a fictionalized Mark Zuckerberg, wracked with guilt, who decides to use his site’s awesome power to help humanity. But can social media be used for good? Can a billionaire truly be a humanitarian? Do the ends justify the means? “Mark!” engages these questions and more, in five acts of pentametric verse.
At a time in which technology grows ever more influential in our lives, this play about ambition, disinformation, corruption, and income inequality is both poignant and funny. Like the best Shakespeare, it also has violence and dick jokes, plus a robot butler and a t-shirt cannon!
Cast includes Davern Wright as Mark Zuckerberg, Jane Kim as Priscilla Chan, Greg Smith as Jarvis, Emily McKeown as Sheryl Sandberg, Cameron Rose as Eduardo Saverin, Kevin Bohleber as Paul, Jerry Chappell as Jerry, and Dina Cataldi as Ida Marzo
