After a sold-out World Premiere season and a New York tour, MICTLÁN returns to Los Angeles. The original play, co-written by Cristina Glezoro and Martin Arreola and directed by Martin Arreola, comes back for a one-night-only performance in an extended version, this time as part of the Lincoln Park Theater Festival on June 5th at 7pm.
MICTLÁN is a multidisciplinary theater experience that blends music, dance, and Aztec poetry in Náhuatl and Spanish to explore life, death, and human purpose. Rooted in the works of Nezahualcóyotl and Tecayehuatzin, the project revives ancestral voices through contemporary performance.
Audiences follow Neli, portrayed by Glezoro, on a journey through the Aztec underworld. Along the way, she encounters powerful deities including Quetzalcóatl (Victor Parra), Tezcatlipoca (Azuay Esteban), and Mictlantecuhtli (Rogelio Nieto), alongside the Mictecah ensemble: Marycarmen Portillo (Movement Director), Emilio Lann, Mia Xavez, Sofía Martínez, and Laura Sofía Domínguez. The production invites audiences to reflect on identity, purpose, and the courage required to follow one’s own voice.
